Gluten Free Fast Foods

There are a growing number of restaurants that are starting to offer gluten free menus, but for the most part, many of the fast food chains have been resistant to acknowledge any of their products as gluten free.   This figures be due to cross-contamination concerns, but that doesn’t mean you can’t get a gluten free meal while out in public.

As a result, here at Gluten Free Fast Food, we’ve been doing our best to track down gluten free information at fast food chains to share with the Celiac community.    Below is a compilation of what we’ve found so far.  Whenever possible, we’ve provided a direct link to the gluten free menu.  In situations where one isn’t available online, we’ve instead linked to the allergen information.

Note: This post is updated regularly to hopefully remain as a valuable resource.  If you have any gluten free fast food information that we are missing, please let us know!

Fast Food Burger Restaurants

Fast Food Chicken Restaurants

Fast Food Mexican Restaurants

Fast Food Miscellaneous Restaurants

Fast Food Sub Sandwich Restaurants

Currently this list is still fairly small, so if you know of any other fast food chains that publish gluten free information online, please take a moment to let us know about it!

Carl’s Junior Gluten Free Menu

For those unfamiliar with Carl’s Junior, it is a burger restaurant linked to the Hardees franchise (I believe).   Although I don’t have a Carl’s Jr. in my area, this has been one of our most requested gluten free menus to date, so I figured I should see what I could find!

If you look on the official Carl’s Junior menu page, you’ll notice a PDF file for Allergen Information (link provided, however that link will likely break after they update their allergen information).   There you’ll find a 2 page chart of allergen information, but they only list foods that contain wheat.

If you are determined, Carl’s Junior also has a PDF file with their ingredient guide  (link provided, however that link will likely break after they update their ingredient guide) on their website which lists every ingredient in every item on their menu!

That would take awhile, however, and you would still have to worry about cross-contamination, so I will likely recommend people visit Carl’s Junior at their own risk.

Taco Bell’s Gluten Free Menu

I’ve found that tacos are one of the most “normal” foods people with Celiac Disease can eat, but for some reason the fast food taco restaurants don’t seem to bother ensuring their tacos are gluten free!

Do you have a Taco Bell in your area that you’d like to eat at?   It seems like most places have one, so I decided to do some research and see what Taco Bell has that is truly gluten free.

Unfortunately, my research produced limited results, but I did find this Taco Bell allergens chart which includes gluten as one of the allergens.  It isn’t an ideal or definitive list, but it might help some people who really want to eat at a Taco Bell.

Once Taco Bell posts something official on their website, I will be sure to get this post updated with their official listing.

Please know, many of our Blizzard® candies and toppings contain wheat, rye, oats, and/or barley and would not be safe for a customer with gluten intolerance.  As the Blizzard® machine is used for all flavors, cross-contamination may occur on any flavor Blizzard®.  So for your safety, we recommend notifying the Dairy Queen® staff of your allergy or intolerance and requesting they thoroughly clean the Blizzard® machine before blending your Blizzard® to reduce the risk of cross-contamination.

When in doubt whether a product may contain a particular allergen, we recommend you purchase a pre-packaged manufactured novelty treat, which contains an ingredient listing and nutrition facts panel on the package.

Dairy Queen® restaurants are very busy and cross contamination may occur between ingredients. Thus a 100% confidence level cannot be guaranteed. It is important that you ask your local Dairy Queen® restaurant for an ingredient listing of the specific item in question and let them know of your special needs.

For many more gluten free items and the most up to date allergy and nutrition information, please visit our nutrition calculator.

As always, remember to explain your dietary needs to the person taking your order to help prevent cross-contamination or other problems!

Chick-Fil-A’s Gluten Free Menu

If you are someone that enjoys gluten free fast food, hopefully you are familiar with the Chick-Fil-A restaurant chain.   Chick-Fil-A boasts a pretty decent sized selection of gluten free menu items and is found pretty much everywhere within the United States.  Unfortunately, much of their chicken if off limits to people with Celiac Disease, but there are still quite a few items to choose from if you know what to look for.

If you are planning to visit a Chick-Fil-A in your area, we recommend you first take the time to visit their official website and print out the official Chick-Fil-A gluten free menu.   Their gluten free menu includes a number of entrees, breakfasts, sides, desserts, sauces/dressings, and even condiments that you will have to choose from.
